In many countries people are not aware of what is really happening in the politics, which is a problem because how are people going to vote and make a change in this world, like the peace activist said in his lyrics “If you want to make the world a better place take a look at yourself and make the change (Michael Jackson: Man in the mirror). This problem can develop in a negative way.
Not knowing what is happening in the politics can be a big problem. I have lived in three different countries and I notice a lot of differences political wise, mostly in the United States of America and Germany. In Germany people start to be informed at eleventh grade in the subject “Wirtschaft und politic” also named WIPO. This means in English economy and politics. This subject explains how everything works and how politics actually a problem itself is because it is a circulation of problems. Not everyone can be satisfied, but they try to look at all aspects, and make the world a better place. In addition they do not only talk about how the politics work also about the problems. One of the biggest problems in Germany is for example “Der Demographischer Wandel”, which is that people in Germany do not have a lot of kids. Most of the families just have one or none. This will be a very big problem in the future because everybody knows that kids are our future. That are some of the topics that teachers teach in the WIPO class. However talking about these topics in school and discussing them does help a lot to think more and think about everybody’s future not only their future also yours. The bad thing is that in Germany there are three different schools, one only till 9th grade, the second till 10th grade and the third till 13th grade, so the problem is that the ones that go in the lower schools will not be so informed how they supposed to, to know more and the problems Germany actually has.
In the United States the politics are slightly different they do not have a “Bundeskanzler” (Federal Chancellor), they have presidents. In addition they only have republicans or democrats. I’m not very sure, if teachers teach or discuss politic problems with their students in High schools or have a politic subject like Germany, but I know that in college students are allowed to pick that subject and learn more about it. This is very important for the students because if they do not know at least a little bit about what actually politics are about and how it actually works, how are they going to vote and how are people going to know how to make this world a better place. If people are not interested in politics they will not do research or informed their self because they are not interested. I have to honestly admit that I used to be one of them. I did not understand how it worked, but when I had the subject WIPO it really got me interested and I did understand how it works maybe not exactly everything but I have a little knowledge about it, but just of the German politics.
In conclusion I think that people should get more informed about the politics however if the people do not get informed in school, they could research by themselves. I notice that people may not be very interested in the beginning, but once they get more informed and have more knowledge about the politics it will help them to know how and why to vote. This will also help to make the world a better place, also to understand the opinions of the politicians and why they think or make different decisions. If people do not make research can be a detract or a contribute of the peaceful world because they do not have the political aspect and the knowledge about what is occurring in the world. According to my opinion it would be very helpful for students that are almost on the age to vote, to have a knowledge about the world problems and situation, so when they are allowed to vote they have apprehension about their environment and economy. With that they can be able to make a change and try to create peace in the world.
I agree with you that most people are not well informed and still act as if they know everything. Some people just assume, their is a saying that by assuming more often than not we dont clearly have much evidence.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your opinion piece. It is very interesting how other countries around the world are approaching this informed voting issue. Here in the U,S most schools have government class as a requirement. It has to do with how our government operates and at my school the teacher would ask use to watch the news and read to keep ourselves informed about our governments plans and what we could do to contribute. It is important that people educate themselves and make well informed decisions. Great Job
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, your title was way too long. Aside from that your right, people need to want to learn whats happening in their nations
ReplyDeleteI think that the only reason why people are not aware of what is going on in politics is because of their ignorance. People would rather go shopping than try to look for good candidates for their upcoming election. I think that when people start to show interest then that is when everything will get better. :)
ReplyDeleteI wrote about this topic too because I thought it was the most interesting one. People really aren't politically aware and I'd be lying if I said I followed politics. The lyric is so true at the beginning! I will say that after I found out a little more about politics I became a little more aware so if people at least researched maybe they could discover a hobby! Great article!
ReplyDeleteI liked your opinion and what you had to say. I made me wonder what side of politics I am on. I have no idea whats on going with the world and all the voting, but I think I will pay attention to it more
ReplyDeleteMany people do not really care about politics because they might don't see as an important objective, but maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to try to take another look at it and maybe start voting. Who know maybe it more useful then I though.
ReplyDeleteI agree, we all need to be more involved and know who we are voting for. I didnt really have much interest in this topic until last year. I think America should be more aware and do their research!
ReplyDeleteI never realized Germany and the U.S. were that different with politics and school. However I do agree with your argument that as future members of society we need to be more aware of what happens in our country politically. If you were to ask teenagers what their views on politics are they would not be able to give you an answer, much less tell you what party they preffer. We need to encourage the young generation to be more involved within our country or else we cannot improve our own country.
